Corina Constanstinescu
University of Liverpool

Corina Constantinescu holds a PhD in Mathematics from Oregon State University and is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics at the University of Liverpool, where she also serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University Pension Fund. Her research expertise lies in developing analytical methods to derive exact and asymptotic results for ruin probabilities under light- and heavy-tailed assumptions in complex insurance risk models. More recently, her work has focused on fair insurance pricing in contexts where gender is excluded as a factor, as well as on financial inclusion, particularly the fair pricing and regulation of microfinance and microinsurance practices. Between 2013 and 2016, she coordinated the RARE network, an international collaboration involving 12 leading institutions, aimed at advancing the theoretical understanding of ruin probabilities under disaster or extreme-shock scenarios. The network introduced and analyzed new risk measures and contributed to the (asymptotic) quantification of aggregated risk. Since 2013, together with Professor Séverine Arnold of HEC Lausanne, she has been organizing the PARTY conferences for young researchers (unil.ch/party). Since 2018, Corina has been teaching and supervising MSc students within the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) network. In 2023–2024, she served as a Visiting Scholar in the Social Finance Programme of the International Labour Organization (United Nations). She is an Associate Editor for several actuarial journals and serves on the Executive Committee of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability as Publicity Secretary. Before entering academia, Corina worked as an actuary, where she led the life insurance department of one of the first private Romanian insurance companies.
